St James, Longburton, Dorset pt2


On entering the chancel and looking into the north chapel, you realise that here is actually something special. Two near identical canopied monuments with recumbent effigies, prettily coloured, husbands and wives paired on top of open chests. Below the one on the left to Sir Henry Winston d1609 and wife the figure of his father lies equally splendid, but beneath the other to Sir John Fitzjames d1625 and wife a collection of bones can be seen.

The day was off to a good start
