Tyntesfield, North Somerset

Arthur Blomfield, not one of Pevsner's favourite architects I believe, excelled himself for the Gibbs family at Tyntesfield. The chapel recalls Exeter College Chapel at Oxford and was built in 1873-5.

There is a large crypt not yet open to the public, which in the architect's model preserved in the house was to have three large three light windows to the south between the two doorways. The bridge connecting the upper floor of the house to the chapel vestibule is also not shown on the model.
